Joe Root has climbed back into the top ten of the ICC's ODI batting rankings for the first time since 2020, rewarded for an unbeaten series against India in which he made 76, 99 and 74 without once being dismissed.
Those 249 runs came at a strike rate of 96.88, enough to make him the series' leading run-scorer and Player of the Series as England won 2-1 for their first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 2018. The rise of four places puts Root at No. 8.
Ben Duckett made the bigger historical dent. His 141 in the deciding ODI at Lord's beat the 138 not out Viv Richards had held as the ground's highest individual ODI score since the 1979 World Cup final, a record that stood for 47 years.
The innings lifted Duckett 11 places to joint-19th.
India lost the series but three of their batters gained ground at the top of the table.
Daryl Mitchell remains the No. 1 ODI batter for New Zealand, with Shubman Gill second and just one rating point behind him after scoring 188 runs across the three matches, the second-most of any player in the series.
Virat Kohli sits third after totalling 144 runs with two fifties, while Rohit Sharma held at No. 4 despite a quiet series that his Lord's century did much to rescue. Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran completes the top five.
Santner and Motie climb after New Zealand’s Caribbean win
New Zealand's bowlers had their own rankings reward, this time from a five-match ODI series in the Caribbean that swung back and forth before the tourists won it 3-2.
Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner took two wickets apiece in New Zealand's series-turning victories in the third and fourth matches, a double act that lifted him three places to joint-fourth among ODI bowlers.
West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie made the bigger jump, seven places to joint-ninth, on the back of five for 49 in the fourth ODI.
Santner now shares fourth spot with South Africa's Keshav Maharaj in a bowling table that spinners have taken over almost entirely.
Rashid Khan of Afghanistan remains No. 1, with Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed second and England quick Jofra Archer the lone seam bowler to break into the top five, at third.
Bracewell breaks into the all-rounder top three
Michael Bracewell's all-round contribution in that same West Indies series, 86 runs in four innings and eight wickets, was enough to move him up to third among ODI all-rounders, passing both Mohammad Nabi and Sikandar Raza in the process. Nabi drops to fourth and Raza to fifth.
Azmatullah Omarzai leads the all-rounder table for Afghanistan, with Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz second.
