McLaren will introduce a significant upgrade package over the next two Formula 1 weekends as the reigning constructors' champions attempt to reignite their title defence.
The Woking-based team has struggled to match the pace of Mercedes and Ferrari in recent races, slipping 154 points behind the championship leaders after nine rounds.
Lando Norris' third-place finish in Spain remains McLaren's only podium in the past five Grands Prix, leaving the team eager to reverse its fortunes before Formula 1 heads into its summer shutdown.
New McLaren parts arriving in Belgium and Hungary
McLaren confirmed ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix that a new rear wing will be evaluated during Friday's practice sessions at Spa-Francorchamps.
Both Norris and Oscar Piastri will also receive the team's third Mercedes-supplied internal combustion engine of the season. The latest specification, which first appeared on the Mercedes works cars in Austria before being introduced to customer teams at Silverstone, has been developed to improve reliability.
The biggest step forward, however, is expected to arrive at next week's Hungarian Grand Prix.
"The team arrives in Belgium fully focused on unlocking the car's absolute potential before a significant upgrade package is introduced for the Hungarian Grand Prix later this month," McLaren said in its race preview.
Technical director Neil Houldey cautioned that the updates at Spa are unlikely to produce an immediate leap in competitiveness.
"We're confident that this update will add a bit of performance to our car, but after a difficult British Grand Prix, mainly in terms of pure pace, we aren't expecting any big change in competitiveness this weekend," Houldey explained.
Instead, McLaren hopes the more extensive developments scheduled for Hungary will help close the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari during the second half of the season.
With two races remaining before the summer break, the Belgian and Hungarian Grands Prix could prove crucial in determining whether McLaren can revive its championship challenge.
