Germany have officially appointed Jurgen Klopp as the country's new head coach, with the former Liverpool manager signing a contract that will keep him in charge through to the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed Klopp's appointment on Friday after its General Assembly ratified the decision. The 59-year-old will officially begin his new role on August 15.
Klopp succeeds Julian Nagelsmann, who left the position after Germany's disappointing exit at the 2026 World Cup.
Klopp returns to coaching with Germany
Having stepped away from management after leaving Liverpool in 2024, Klopp had rejected several opportunities before accepting his first role in international football.
Nagelsmann's departure followed Germany's shock elimination in the Round of 32 at the World Cup, where Paraguay prevailed in a penalty shootout after the match ended level.
The former Bayern Munich coach had taken charge of the national team in September 2023 after replacing Hansi Flick, but his contract, originally due to expire in 2028, was ended by mutual agreement.
Klopp expressed his excitement at taking over the national team.
"The national team is capable of uniting Germans as nothing else does, and that is what makes this task so special for me," he said.
"I am grateful for everything I experienced and learned over the past year and a half with Red Bull, and I also thank them for the spirit of cooperation and openness that made this agreement possible.
"I now look forward to this special task in German football, and we will work together with humility and patience to build a team that fights for one another, enjoys football, and deserves the German fans to rally around it with full conviction."
Familiar faces join Klopp's coaching staff
Klopp will be joined by trusted assistants Peter Krawietz, Pepijn Lijnders and former Germany international Sven Bender.
Krawietz and Lijnders both worked closely alongside Klopp during his successful spell at Liverpool, helping the Reds win the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020.
Lijnders most recently served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, while Krawietz arrives after working within the Red Bull football group. Bender returns to the DFB after previous coaching roles with Germany's youth teams, Borussia Dortmund and Unterhaching.

DFB confident Klopp can restore Germany's fortunes
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said Klopp was the federation's preferred candidate from the outset.
"Jurgen Klopp embodies passion, credibility and the ability to inspire others, and that is why he was our first choice without any hesitation after Julian Nagelsmann's resignation," he said.
Sporting director Rudi Voller also welcomed the appointment, praising Klopp's ability to develop players and lead successful teams under pressure.
Klopp's first assignment will come during the next international window, when Germany face the Netherlands, Greece, Serbia and Greece again across four fixtures.
The DFB will hope one of the country's most successful modern coaches can rebuild the national side and guide Germany back among football's elite ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
