Liverpool and Newcastle United will pay tribute to club legend Kevin Keegan before their Premier League opener later this month, with both sides working together to honour one of English football's most iconic figures.
Keegan, who died this week at the age of 75, is revered by supporters of both clubs after enjoying legendary spells at Liverpool as a player and Newcastle as both a player and manager.

The two clubs will meet at St James' Park on 23 August to kick off their 2026-27 Premier League campaigns, with Newcastle confirming discussions are underway to ensure Keegan's memory is honoured before kick-off.
The Magpies said they are working alongside Liverpool, the Premier League and supporter groups, including the Fan Advisory Board, Newcastle United Supporters Trust and Wor Flags, to organise the tribute.
Keegan joined Newcastle as a player in 1982 before returning as manager a decade later, leading the club back to the top flight and guiding them to a memorable Premier League title challenge in the mid-1990s.
He also enjoyed a glittering playing career at Liverpool, where he won three league titles, the European Cup, two UEFA Cups and the FA Cup.

Newcastle have confirmed their men's, women's and Under-21 teams will wear black armbands during upcoming pre-season matches in honour of the former England captain.
A minute's silence will also be observed before Saturday's friendly against Gateshead.
Supporters attending the club's fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen, Strasbourg and Inter Milan will be invited to join a minute's applause in the seventh minute, with Keegan's image displayed on the big screens in recognition of the famous No. 7 shirt he wore during his playing career.
The club also revealed it will consult Keegan's family about plans for a permanent tribute at St James' Park.

Keegan announced in June that he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer after his family revealed earlier this year that he had been undergoing treatment.
A statement released by the family confirmed he passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Widely regarded as one of England's greatest football personalities, Keegan also represented Scunthorpe United, Hamburg and Southampton before managing Fulham, England and Manchester City.
